I'm going to jazz up a glass picture frame by gluing on seashells I picked up at the beach, and I'm wondering what type of glue would work best for these materials. Would hot glue hold well? It's a gift, so I'd like it to look nice and not fall apart after a few days. What kind of adhesive should I use to glue shells onto glass?
I have had very good luck with a product called ';shoe goo'; or sometimes called ';shoe goop';. This is also sold as sportsman goop, household goop and a few other names, but it all about the same.
The shoe goo is sold in most hardware, Lowes and home Depot stores and in Wal Mart mostly in the shoe department.
I fixed a broken handle on a large coffee cup over fourteen years ago, and it's still intact and strong as ever.
The name may be funny, but his is no joke.
I also fixed a corner of a broken glass frame with this stuff.
It's good on glass, metal cloth and wood, plus plastic and vinyl products. Great stuff. What kind of adhesive should I use to glue shells onto glass?
If you're in the US, try any one of the Goop brand glues. You can find them in the crafts supplies aisle or the hardware aisle of larger discount department stores. You can also find them (a little higher price, same stuff) at crafts supplies stores. These are the best glues to hold almost anything to almost anything. They're not so great for thin papers, but work well on anything else. Their E6000 would probably not be the best for this application, but any of their other glues would be wonderful for it.
Hot glue carefully applied, clear drying silicone glue, and /or Elmer's or similar type white glue that dries clear if no moisture is expected.
