my white ceramic tile is hard to keep clean, I am trying to cover it with vinyl tile. The adhesive on the back of the vinyl tile will not stick to the ceramic tile. What adhesive can be used to glue vinyl tile to ceramic tile?
Bob C is correct. I am a tile contractor. I would never recommend putting vinyl over tile. It simply will not stick, nor will it look good in 6 months.
Is it the tile or the grout that is dirty? Unless the tile is very very worn (as in scuffed so the ceramic glaze is missing), it should clean quite easily. Grout joints can be bleached, then sealed with a clear sealer.
In very bad cases, grout can be removed and re-applied to the joints, then sealed. What adhesive can be used to glue vinyl tile to ceramic tile?
As the people here say..You cannot do this for most tile are either glazed or sealed..then you would have to literaly sand the tile glazing off..very dusty and messy..close the whole house off...then you would have to ';float'; over all the grout areas to make it even..if tiles are put over these grout areas they will not adhere anyway..and eventually buckle down and start cracking.. You can overlay the tile with a thin plywood..and drill small holes throught it and the tile for pilot holes to screws and screw a sub floor over it.. You need masonry bits to drill through the tile and wood bits for the wood part..you can then apply vinyl down to the new plywood...
Actually, gluing vinyl to ceramic tile is typically not a good idea at all. Ceramic tile has edges with grooves in between therefore the vinyl with not lay flat. In time, the edges will curl and, in addition to being a tripping hazard, will collect dirt.
Instead, try a rug with a rubber backing so it doesn't slide.
remove the tile and go from there.
mix it up, then u need the grout for in between the tiles after they dry for a few days... hope that's help you??
