What is the best adhesive for gluing onyx or other beads such as coral to gold or other metals?

like everything it depends. It depends on what the exact materials are, how closely they fit and what they are to be used for.

Let me explain. If you are going to stick a cabachon or domed stone with a flat back into a piece of jewellery that fits it exactly, then superglue (cyanoacrylate) will do - sets in seconds and loves gluing fingers so be careful. But this not usually used for items where durability and flexibility are needed.

You mention onyx and coral. Both of these are porous - will absorb moisture - So I would suggest that you look at using a two part epoxy resin glue. Make sure that both the stones and the metal are clean and free of grease. When I make up jewellery using gold plated or silver plated items I scratch the surface of the metal with emery paper underneath where the stone is to be set - so that the scratches can't be seen. Then I apply the glue to the metal - not the stone. That way you only put glue where its needed. Wipe off excess glue straight away OR leave until fully cured then cut off excess with a sharp knife. Even if you use a 5 minute epoxy, still wait 24 hours before using the jewellery.

Remember to check that the glue dries clear. Check coral for being colour fast as a lot of it is dyed and sometimes the dye comes out in the presence of certain chemicals. What is the best adhesive for gluing onyx or other beads such as coral to gold or other metals?
I've had success with Goop. It comes in a tube, in the jewelry or glue section of craft stores. What is the best adhesive for gluing onyx or other beads such as coral to gold or other metals?
krazy glue
Use two part epoxy. Although, if your metal is gold, platinum, or silver, please have the stone set by a professional (or learn how to set it). Glue is just such a cheap way to assemble jewelry. *shiver*

It's like cheating.

  1. have an oynx chess board that is currently in three very heavy pieces. Would an epoxy glue be best? Someoene recommended gorilla glue, but in either case use of a vise is recommended. On right track?
