A good answer would take into account the finish on the table. A polyurethane finish will handle a lot more cleaners than a shellac finish. You can try Goo Be Gone (I think that is what it's called). It is actually in the floor cleaner section and is used to get cruddy stuff off of tile floors, but can be used for hardwood too. Good luck!
